Meet the Dean

Dean Nicole GuajardoThe College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences is dedicated to scientific study of the world around us. Our departments and programs span the science spectrum:

  • Mathematics
  • Molecular Biology and Chemistry
  • Neuroscience
  • Organismal and Environmental Biology
  • Physics, Computer Science and Engineering
  • Psychology

If science or mathematics is what you love, our college is for you!

We provide a world-class education through excellent teaching and research mentoring, which prepares our students for graduate study; medical school; or innovative and cutting-edge careers in science, engineering, mathematics and health. Working with undergraduate students is our faculty members’ top priority. As active scholars, our professors not only bring their research into the classes they teach, but also offer students opportunities to work with them in their labs. In classes and in labs, students learn the process of science, how to develop and answer questions in an objective, systematic way and how to apply such thinking to their everyday lives.

We are focused on providing students experiences and programs that prepare them for the 21st century. With the combination of our liberal learning core curriculum and in-depth exploration of a major, our graduates are prepared to continue studying science or to apply their skills to the work force. We also offer graduate programs in environmental science and in applied physics and computer science, which lead to both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in only five years.

You can learn a lot about us by browsing our departmental web pages, and I hope you will. But more importantly, we want to get to know you! Please contact us by phone or email and let us know of your interest in science and Christopher Newport. Better yet, come visit us, take a tour, and let us show you why CNU is a great place to study science!
