The university's response to COVID-19 is informed by guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), including the following recommendations:

  • If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your health care provider about whether you need to wear a mask and/or take other precautions.
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • People with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

Classes, events, official business, faculty office hours and other engagements at Christopher Newport University are in-person this academic year. The following are the safety guidelines:

  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is strongly encouraged. Please stay up-to-date!
  • Test for COVID-19 if you are sick or have reason to believe that you have become infected.
  • Employees should not come to work or co-mingle with others if they are sick. Visit VDH Isolation and Quarantine for guidance.
