Student Government Association - Christopher Newport University

Student Government Association

The Student Government Association allocates the funds raised from student fees to organizations on campus and offers small grant and conference funding to students and organizations. We also represent student needs and concerns by serving on committees, surveying the student body, sharing student feedback, holding face-to-face meetings and partnering with the administration.

Funding Opportunities

Conference Fund
The Student Government Association is committed to helping students succeed in their personal, academic and professional endeavors. One way we do this is by providing financial assistance for students who want to enhance their educational experience by attending leadership, academic and professional conferences.

Small Grant Fund
The Small Grant Fund, provided by a portion of the student activity fees, is available to recognized student organizations in support of events, activities and student-led programs/initiatives that contribute to the overall quality of campus life.

Projects and Initiatives

Town Hall Meetings
As the voice of the students, we provide a platform for students to share ideas and concerns.

Mental Health Awareness
Stress and anxiety are important issues on college campuses today. We are working to reduce and re-frame the stigma that surrounds mental health and provide educational resources for students.

Light the Night
This annual event brings the campus community together with music, giveaways and lawn games the night before classes begin each fall.

Sustainability
We work with the university's sustainability coordinator to develop eco-friendly solutions on campus.

Community Outreach
We work with the Center for Community Engagement to assist in planning and executing the annual Food for Thought campaign, which benefits the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.
