Graduate Outcomes

The mission of the Luter School of Business is to develop students intellectually and professionally through a liberal-arts-based business education that graduates students who positively impact and contribute to the communities in which they live, work, and serve.

By completing the recommended accounting courses you’ll be prepared and eligible to take the CPA exam. Christopher Newport accounting graduates are heavily recruited and represented in all areas of the field: public accounting (including the Big Four, regional and local CPA firms), corporate and government accounting, cost accounting, tax accounting, and internal auditing.

Graduate schools also actively recruit our students. In recent years, accounting majors have been accepted to business and accounting graduate programs at top schools across the nation.

A finance degree offers great flexibility in both employment and graduate programs. Many employers seek out our graduates because finance majors have intensive quantitative training and real-world business skills. Graduates go on to careers in banking, investing, financial planning and corporate finance as well as financial management for small businesses, nonprofit organizations and charities.

As a management major, you’ll be equipped to navigate the dynamic challenges of today’s fast-evolving business landscape. Through hands-on simulations, collaborative in-class projects, and real-world work with our community partners, you’ll gain practical, valuable experience that will prepare you to tackle any business challenge with confidence. Our management graduates are highly qualified for diverse career paths, including roles in human resources, consulting, operations, supply chain management, project management, logistics, sports management, and business analytics.

Marketing careers blend creativity, strategic decision-making, and technological expertise, offering opportunities across various fields. Professionals in marketing work to build strong brands, engage customers, and drive business growth. Our graduates pursue careers in advertising, brand and marketing management, channel management, sales, retail, and sports marketing.

Graduates of our marketing program are well-prepared for advanced studies, securing placement in graduate programs focused on advertising and promotion, customer relationship management, data analytics, public relations, market research, sports marketing, nonprofit fundraising, and political marketing.

The Luter School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance College Schools of Business, a distinction shared by only 6% of business schools worldwide.

The Luter School of Business offers a two-year program with four majors: Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing. Students apply as sophomores and must have completed prerequisite courses and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

National Standardized Testing

Luter seniors take the Major Field Test (MFT), which is designed to measure students’ knowledge in nine business-related categories, including accounting, finance, management, marketing, economics, qualitative analysis, information systems, legal and social environment, and international. There are approximately 12 questions in each category.

The MFT assesses our program strengths and identifies areas for improvement by comparing scores of over 325 domestic institutions, with over 35,000 students taking the test each year. Since 2019, Luter School of Business students have performed at or above the 92nd percentile.

The highest Luter student scorer each academic year receives academic recognition and a financial award.
