Career Preparation
Certificate in Public History (non-credit earning)
Our mission is to foster a broader understanding of the importance of history and to forge closer relationships between Christopher Newport University and the world-class museums, archives and public history agencies located throughout Virginia and beyond. We encourage students to apply their classroom skills to real world experiences in the field of public history.
Requirements
- 120 internship hours at a verified public history agency
In addition to the internship requirement, students may choose one of the following:
-
Volunteer at three PHC-approved events at local public history agencies
-
20 volunteer hours at one or more verified public history agencies
Contact Dr. Sheri Shuck-Hall for volunteer opportunities at sheri.shuckhall@cnu.edu.
Upon completion of the above requirements, the certificate in public history will be awarded at graduation. This is a non-credit earning certificate issued by the Public History Center.
Piece of Public History
Our lunch-time lecture series provides a chance for local practitioners to discuss the state of the field and promote internships at their organizations.
