Guaranteed Admission
Guaranteed Admission for Virginia Community College Students
If you’re attending a Virginia Community College System (VCCS) school and pursuing a transfer-oriented associate degree, you may qualify for guaranteed admission to Christopher Newport University!
Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher who meet the eligibility requirements below can seamlessly transfer to CNU through our Guaranteed Admission Agreement (GAA).
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the GAA, you must:

- Complete all required degree credits at a VCCS school (AP, IB, CLEP, and Cambridge credits are accepted)
- Have at least one fall or spring semester of full-time enrollment (12+ credit hours) at your VCCS college
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
- Declare your intent to transfer to CNU after earning at least 15 credits and before graduating from your community college
How to Declare Your Intent

- Submit the letter to your college’s Transfer Center.
- Remain continuously enrolled (excluding summers) from the time you submit your intent until your associate degree is awarded.
- Apply to transfer to CNU for the semester indicated on your Letter of Intent.

- Students who were previously enrolled at CNU and later transferred to a VCCS college to complete an associate degree are not eligible for the GAA.
- You must still complete the full CNU transfer admission application and meet all published deadlines and requirements.
