Admission Review

Finding Your Fit at CNU

At Christopher Newport, we take a holistic approach to reviewing transfer applications. That means we look beyond numbers to understand your full story - your academic journey, your goals, and the experiences that make you who you are.

We’re looking for students who will thrive in CNU’s community of scholars, innovators, leaders, and changemakers, and we’re here to help you get there.

What We Look For

Competitive transfer applicants typically have:

  • 12–15 or more college-level credit hours
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
  • At least one completed college-level math and English course

We also value the rigor of your previous coursework and the grades you’ve earned in those classes.

Make Your Application Stand Out

Beyond academics, we want to know who you are and what drives you. In our holistic review, we also consider:

  • Leadership and service experience
  • Your chosen major and academic goals
  • Personal statement or essay
  • Extracurricular activities
  • A transfer advising appointment so we can get to know you better (highly encouraged!)

💬 Pro Tip: Schedule a Transfer Advising Appointment to share your story directly with our team — it’s a great way to highlight your goals, strengths, and what makes you a great fit for CNU.

Your Next Steps

If you’re admitted as a full-time student, you’ll be expected to enroll in 12 or more credit hours each semester. Part-time enrollment is also available for students who prefer a flexible schedule.

Once admitted, you’ll need to submit a Transfer College Report (enrollment and conduct verification) from each institution you’ve attended. Please note that concealing prior college attendance or disciplinary history may result in withdrawal of admission.

Plan for Your Future

CNU graduates go places and we want to help you get there.
