Residence Life and Housing Administration is dedicated to providing on-campus housing that enhances the educational experience for every residential student at Christopher Newport University.
The residential experience at Christopher Newport is foundational to student success; consequently, all undergraduates are expected to reside on campus to maximize their academic potential and foster deeper campus involvement.
Our primary focus is on fostering a peer-learning, student-centered environment where students feel a sense of belonging, move toward independence, build meaningful connections, and grow as responsible leaders leading lives of significance.
Incoming Students Application Process
- Receive an offer of admission to CNU.
- Accept the offer of admission and commit to attending CNU in the Admitted Student System. Be advised, it can take 3–5 business days after paying your enrollment deposit and accepting the offer of admission to gain access to the Housing Portal.
- Review our website to learn about available housing options and complete the Housing Module in the Admitted Student System.
- Apply for housing by visiting the Housing Portal. In the application, students are guided through the housing process and electronically sign the housing contract. The Housing Application for new students opens in February. There is no application fee to apply for on-campus housing.
- Navigate to the Housing Portal.
- Near the top right-hand corner of the page, select "Login" and sign in with your CNU account credentials.
- In the dark-blue navigation bar along the top of the page, select "MyHousing".
- Select the "Apply" button next to the appropriate Academic Year/Term and follow the prompts to complete the online Housing Contract process.
- Verify that you have finished the contract process by signing back into the Housing Portal and going to the “MyHousing” tab. On this tab, you will find whether or not you have completed the contract process.
Deadline for Academic Year Housing: May 15
Housing assignments for incoming first-year students are released in July. Housing assignments for transfer students are released on a rolling basis. All communication regarding housing assignments is sent to a student’s CNU email.
Deadline for Spring-Only Housing: December 15
Housing assignments for spring-only housing are released to students on a rolling basis. All communication regarding housing assignments is sent to a student’s CNU email.
Current and Returning Students Application Process
Current and returning students participate in a Housing Selection process in the spring semester of each academic year to choose their housing, roommates, suitemates, and dining plan for the following academic year. Details about selecting a room, roommates, suitemates, and dining plans are communicated through the CNU email and updated on the Housing Portal.
- Apply for housing by visiting the Housing Portal. The Housing Application for current/returning students opens in January and closes in February. There is no application fee to apply for on-campus housing.
- Verify that your submission has finished the contract process by signing back into the Housing Portal and going to the “MyHousing” tab. On this tab, you will find whether or not you have completed the contract process.
- Begin thinking about housing options for you and those in your roommate group in preparation for the selection process to occur in March.
